What makes your work exciting?

One of the most rewarding aspects is knowing that the hardware we design supports some of the world's most ambitious space programs. Every project presents unique engineering challenges, and it's incredibly satisfying to see our designs contribute to missions that advance scientific discovery and space exploration.

What inspired you to build a career in the space sector?

I have spent many years designing mechanical systems across different industries, but I wanted to work on technology that pushes the boundaries of engineering. Joining Teledyne gave me the opportunity to contribute to space missions, where every design has to perform flawlessly in one of the most demanding environments imaginable.

What is your role in helping enable space missions?

Our team designs the sensor packaging and supporting mechanical hardware that provides the structural, thermal, and mechanical interface for our advanced imaging detectors. These detectors are at the heart of many Earth observation and scientific space missions, so every design must survive launch, operate in the extreme conditions of space and continue delivering exceptional performance throughout the mission.

What makes engineering for space different from any other industry?

Space engineering demands absolute precision. Once a spacecraft leaves Earth, there's no opportunity to repair or replace hardware. Every component must withstand vibration during launch, extreme temperature changes and years of operation in orbit. That level of reliability makes the work incredibly rewarding.

Which space missions are you currently supporting?

I currently support several advanced imaging and sensing programs at various stages of development, including Earth observation, defense, and space-based applications. These technologies support scientific research, national security, space exploration, and other mission critical sensing applications. It's exciting to play a role in technologies that will help scientists better understand our planet for years to come.

Why is collaboration so important in the space sector?

No space mission is built by one person. We work closely with systems engineers, manufacturing teams, test specialists and customers throughout every program. Bringing those different disciplines together is what allows us to deliver mission-ready hardware for space.

Speaking of collaboration, what makes Teledyne Space such an exciting collective effort?

Teledyne Space brings together world-leading expertise from across the global organization. Having access to so many specialist teams, technologies and decades of space heritage creates an environment where innovation happens every day. It's exciting to be part of an organization that's helping shape the future of space exploration and Earth observation.

How do you see the future of the global space sector?

The industry is growing rapidly. There are more commercial and government missions than ever before, creating demand for increasingly advanced imaging technologies. It's an exciting time to be an engineer because we're helping develop the next generation of space systems that will support science, exploration and climate monitoring.

What motivates you most about your work?

Knowing that something I've helped design could one day be operating hundreds of miles above Earth, supporting missions that expand our understanding of our planet and the wider Universe. I take great pride in contributing to technology that enables space exploration.
