Space missions rely on countless advanced technologies working together. Where does Teledyne Energy Systems fit into that picture?

TES develops advanced power technologies that enable spacecraft and exploration systems to operate in environments where conventional power sources simply are not possible.

Our portfolio includes fuel cell systems and radioisotope power systems that provide reliable electrical power and heat for missions operating far from Earth. These technologies have already supported NASA missions, including the Mars rovers, and continue to play an important role in future lunar and deep space exploration.

Reliable power is fundamental to every successful mission, making it one of the most important technologies behind modern space exploration.

Europe is investing heavily in the future of space. What does your role involve?

My role is to introduce Teledyne Energy Systems' capabilities across Europe and help organisations understand how our technologies can support future missions and expand our opportunities and revenue in the region.

That includes engaging with leading companies, research organisations and the European Space Agency, while attending industry events where we can showcase our expertise and discuss future opportunities.

Why is dependable power such an important part of space exploration?

Once a spacecraft leaves Earth, there is very little room for failure.

Power systems must continue operating in extremely harsh environments, often for many years, while supporting scientific instruments, communications and critical onboard systems. Reliability is absolutely essential, which is why these technologies undergo such rigorous development and testing.

Teledyne Space brings together expertise from across many specialist businesses. How does Teledyne Energy Systems contribute to that wider capability?

Teledyne Space combines world leading expertise across imaging, sensing, electronics, communications and power technologies.

Teledyne Energy Systems provides the advanced power solutions that enable spacecraft, planetary rovers and exploration systems to operate throughout their missions. Together, these complementary technologies allow Teledyne Space to support customers with solutions across almost every aspect of a space programme.

You recently attended your first international space conference. What stood out to you?

I was impressed by how collaborative the industry is.

There are established space organisations, innovative start-ups and research institutions all working towards common goals. The willingness to exchange ideas and explore new partnerships creates an environment where innovation can happen very quickly.

It was inspiring to see the ambition across the sector and the number of exciting programmes already taking shape.

What is it like working as part of a global team?

Teledyne Energy Systems has around 100 employees, with most of the team based in the United States, while I support customers across Europe.

Although we work from different locations, collaboration is constant. We regularly work together on customer meetings, conferences and business development activities, combining expertise from across the organisation to support new opportunities.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy engaging with people from different countries, learning about the challenges they are trying to solve and exploring how our technologies can help.

Every organisation has different objectives, so no two conversations are ever the same. That variety makes the role both interesting and rewarding and especially being able to do that in three different languages.

Space exploration is entering a new era, with renewed missions to the Moon and ambitions for Mars. What excites you most about the future?

We are entering an incredibly exciting period for the space industry.

Governments, commercial companies and research organisations are investing in increasingly ambitious missions, creating opportunities for new technologies and international collaboration. It is exciting to know that the work we do today could help enable the next generation of lunar missions, Mars exploration and other discoveries that have yet to be imagined.

Finally, what are your ambitions over the coming year?

My goal is to continue expanding awareness of Teledyne Energy Systems across Europe, strengthen our relationships within the space community to drive revenue growth in the region.

By working closely with organisations developing tomorrow's missions, we can help ensure our technologies continue supporting some of the world's most ambitious space programmes while strengthening the wider capabilities of Teledyne Space.
